Obituary

Arturo Benavides, 62, of San Marcos passed away October 2nd 2016 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 12, 1953 to Cecilio and Hortencia (Santos) Benavides.

Arturo is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sylvia; daughter, Laura Benavides of San Marcos; son, Adrian Benavides of San Marcos; granddaughter, Liana Lopez of San Marcos; his mother, Hortencia Benavides; sister, Grace Castillo and her husband, Marcelo of San Antonio; sister, Gloria Flores and her husband, Rudy of San Antonio; sister, Leticia Fisher and her husband, Chuck of San Antonio; brother, Enrique Benavides and his wife, Tracy of Corpus Christi; sister, Sylvia Ramirez and her husband, Ray of Floresville; brother, Oscar Benavides and his wife, Betty of Carrizo Springs; sister, Rosie Flores and her husband, Luis of San Antonio; and brother, Daniel Benavides of Floresville.

Arturo was a firm believer in helping the community as exhibited by being a part of CENTRO, The Knights of Columbus, The Hispanic Chamber, LULAC, Minority Tourism Board, St. Vincent de Paul, the San Marcos Education Foundation, Nosotros la Gente, and a Volunteer Fireman, all activities at different stages of his life, He loved family time: camping, traveling, boating, and with his pilot's license, taking his family flying in South Texas. He was a good man.

The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday, October 6th 2016 at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 7th 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in San Marcos.
