Bettye Jane Dutton Webb was born to William and Tallie Dutton on July 18, 1929, in Denison, Texas. She received a journalism degree from North Texas State College, where she met Cloys Webb, a respected choral director whom she married in 1949. Bettye worked as a paralegal and secretary in Perryton, McAllen, and Fort Worth, in addition to her work as a homemaker. Cloys and Bettye retired to Wimberley in 1993, and resided there until Cloys' death in 2007. In 2008, Bettye moved to New Braunfels.
Bettye was a keen reader, a sports fan, and an astute commentator on the absurdities of life. She had a tart sense of humor and was often referred to as the embodiment of the cartoon character Maxine. Others admired and treasured her ability to always surround herself with dear friends.
Bettye passed away on July 29, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cloys Webb. She is survived by daughters Kelly Webb Ferebee of Irving, Karen Cook of Valentine, Kerry Lorey of Richardson; and son Dwight Webb of New Braunfels; grandchildren Heather McLeod of Austin, Kristin Ferebee of Ohio, Lauren Ferebee of New York, April Wolterstorff of Amarillo, Katye Cook of Amarillo, Kim Head of Arkansas, Tiffany Marts of Lake Dallas, Luke Lorey of Arkansas, Bryce Lorey of Arkansas, Ashley Divine of Pflugerville, Dutton Webb of New Braunfels, Kenny Smith of Florida, and nine great-grandchildren.
