Billy Joe Hageman Sr.
November 3, 1927 --- May 29, 2017

BJ Hageman Sr, of San Marcos, Texas passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017 at the age of 89. BJ was born November 3, 1927 in San Marcos, the youngest son of Hilmar and Alta Hageman. He attended San Marcos schools and earned a master's degree in chemistry from Southwest Texas State Teachers College. In 1949, BJ wed Juanita Cockerell. Together they built an incredible legacy: raising two sons, investing deeply in their community, and traveling the world until her death in 2003. Growing up in San Marcos, BJ was highly involved in helping to run the family business, Hageman Battery and Electric, as well as caring for the livestock his father kept and cultivating the family garden. In fact, BJ's love of gardening overflowed into everything he put his hand to, tending to his children and grandchildren with care and attention to the details of their lives: always advocating for excellence, hard work, and pursuing higher education, and supporting their interests in academics, athletics, music, Scouting, and more. Second only to his love for athletics, BJ loved to travel and he visited every state in the US and over 40 countries via RV and camping trips, hunting expeditions, cruises, vacations, and family gatherings.

BJ is survived by his wife of twelve wonderful years, Lillian Wacker Hageman, son BJ Hageman Jr (Pixie) of San Marcos, son Stephen Hageman (Beverly) of Fairport, NY, stepsons Mike Wacker (Susie) of San Antonio, Steve Wacker (Kyrrha) of Austin, and Tom Wacker (Nikki) of Highland Village, and brothers- and sisters-in-law Bill and Connie Schade of Seguin and Richard and Joyce Dinel of Pacific Palisades, CA. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, June 1, at Thomason Funeral Home, San Marcos. A memorial service is planned for 10am on Friday, June 2, at St Mark's Episcopal Church, San Marcos with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hageman Family Endowed Scholarship, (Geography Department – Texas State University, 601 University Drive – ELA139, San Marcos, TX 78666), CTMC Hospice, or the charity of your choosing.
