Obituary

BLAS GARZA BARRERA, 53, a resident of San Marcos, Texas, passed away May 7, 2012. He was born September 20, 1958, in San Marcos. Blas was known as an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, his kind, gentle, and fun spirit will be missed by all who knew him. He was a kind and caring father and grandfather. His family was very important to him.

Blas is preceded in death by his mother Minerva Garza Barrera, step-father Isbel Rodriguez, and his brother Danny "Bear" Gonzalez.

He is survived by his children April Michelle Cardenas and her husband Jimmy of Austin, Jason Barrera and his wife Jennifer of San Marcos, Angela Vazquez and her husband Edwin of Kyle; grandchildren Blas Jeremy Barrera, Brianna Barrera, Justin Barrera, Cassie Estrada, Makayla Barrera, Dylan Estrada, Krista Barrera, and Jeffrey Cardenas.

Blas is also survived by his brothers Ismael Barrera, Jr., Richard Barrera, Mario Barrera, and Eloy Barrera, and his sisters Mary Alice Ortega, and Elvia Tobias; his father Ismael Barrera, and other loving relatives.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012, from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos. A Memorial Prayer Service will be held that evening at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at St. John's Catholic Church in San Marcos. Burial to follow at San Juan Cemetery in Reedville, Texas. The family wishes to thank all the people who helped care for Blas throughout the years.
