Cathy Dell Butler was born August 7, 1952 in Bryan, Texas to parents Ernie and Janie Metzer. She passed away on June 30, 2016, at home in San Marcos, Texas.
Cathy was a special mom and grandma, and delighted in the opportunities that she had to show love to her family. She cherished her family near and far, and was especially close to her sister, Sharon. Cathy was a loyal and generous friend, and would do anything to help her people. She had many friendships that spanned decades, and she was always ready for a chat and a good cup of coffee.
In her life's journey, Cathy was a mama to many, a beautiful writer, an awesome and enthusiastic dancing and singing partner, a maker of art, the best chicken fried steak maker EVER, an avid reader, a super proud Nano, a gardener, and so much more! She would never turn down some Cheetos, a diet Coke, and a good episode of NCIS. She was passionate about people, especially children, and would never let a mouth go hungry. If you needed a hug, she hugged big and tight. Above all, Cathy was kind, and in the hearts and minds of her friends, family, and loved ones, that kindness will always be remembered and treasured.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents; her nephew, Kevin Metzer; and great-nephew, Kevin Metzer. She is survived by her children, Michael and Laurie Butler, and Zane and Cindy Hendershott; her grandchildren, Elijah, Brittney, Brady, Seth, Bryan, and Brett; her siblings, Sharon, Rodney, Russell, and Tim and the many other people that made up her circle of family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan at 2:00PM on Friday, July 8th. Her kids, Michael and Cindy, would appreciate for memorial contributions to be made to the Hays County Food Bank in San Marcos, Texas or to the local food bank of your choice, in Cathy's honor.
