Dawn Marie Breihan-Hopp transitioned to her new life on December 18, 2010 surrounded by her loving family, her beloved dogs, and a host of devoted friends.
She leaves beautiful memories in the hearts of her mother and father, Frances and Ted Breihan, brothers, Stacy and wife Michele, and Jaimy Lamar. Also surviving is her sister Erin Pellien and husband Corky.
Niece and nephews are Crystal Breihan Siegert, Taylor Breihan, and her adored nephew, Major Pellien.
Also surviving is her very special cousin and dear friend, Robert Cotner.
She leaves husband, Jerry J. Hopp of San Marcos, stepdaughters Stacy Hopp of Portland, Oregon, and Stephanie Hopp of San Marcos. Also surviving is granddaughter, Zoe.
Many, many other extended family members survive. She was loved by all.
Dawn's professional career was illustrous. During her 34 years spent teaching elementary physical education, she touched the lives of countless children. Some of her proudest moments include Texas Demonstration Center School (TEA/TAHPERD), Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year, and one of six finalists for National Physical Educator of the Year, Texas State University APER Distinguished Alumnus Award, San Marcos Lions Club Outstanding Teacher of the Year, served TAHPERD as Vice-President for Physical Education.
She also received a Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Affiliate American Heart Association for her work with the Jump Rope for Heart Demonstration Team – "Rattle your Heart". She received nineteen additional awards during her teaching career at Crockett Elementary School.
While Dawn's many awards and professional accomplishments in no way define her, they are indicative of her value as an educator. She was a Master Teacher.
She was every student's good fortune, and knowing Dawn made all of those around her feel like winners.
Her closing words to all of those who knew her as well as many, many others were "exercise daily".
