Doris Rae Tillman departed this life on February 9th, 2015. She was born January 12, 1921 to John Luther Collier and Ethel Shaw in Ardmore, OK. Proceeding her in death were her parents, her loving husband Bill Tillman, and her devoted son Chad Allen Tillman. She is survived by her son Gerald Collier Tillman, granddaughter Carrie Tillman, her loyal sister, Marjorie Poore, and many affectionate & admiring family members.
Mr. and Mrs. Tillman's dedication to their family evoked the selling of a successful business and leaving numerous friends in Port Arthur, to move to San Marcos in 1980 and be closer to their son and granddaughter. Upon arrival, they became members of the First United Methodist Church and a meaningful part of the San Marcos community. A number of friends were made through the New Neighbors Supper Club. They loved to entertain, and their warm & peaceful home was always open to friends and relatives.
Doris was an active member of United Methodist Women, the Martha Circle, the Joy Sunday School Class, and later volunteered at the Twice Blessed Consignment Shop. She also volunteered at the CTMC Auxiliary.
Along with being a mother, grandmother, volunteer, and active church member, Doris was an accomplished painter and created beautiful paintings of bluebonnets, impressive landscapes and classical architecture. Many of her ideas came from their travels to southern mansions and historical sites. She revered traditional architecture, wanting to create lasting memories to preserve their beauty.
The family wishes to thank the Angels For Elders for their distinguished, skillful and unrelenting loving care of Doris, which allowed her to remain in her beautiful home until her passing.
The graveside service will be held at the San Marcos Cemetery on Friday, February 13th at 2:00pm, officiated by Rev. Jenna Heart.
