Helen Marjorie Cook was born on November 15, 1938 in Agricola, Mississippi, to Melvin and Ruby Cook. She went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2017. A special celebration of her life was held at First Baptist Church Wimberley on Tuesday, August 29th, at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Scott Weatherford presiding.
In 1957, Margie graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. She then took courses that led into a dental assistant career. After high school, she married Charles Stephens. He was drafted into Army shortly thereafter, and they moved to Germany where he was stationed.
After Germany, they moved back to Mobile where Charles took a civil service position at Brookley AFB. Two children were born to them there: Eddie in 1961, and Dan in 1964.
In 1966, Charles transferred to Kelly AFB in San Antonio. Soon after, Margie took a job as a dental assistant. Later she became the receptionist for the same dentist office, eventually working her way up to office manager. In 2009, after 43 years with the same dental practice, Margie retired.
Margie was fond of her four grandchildren. Proper dental care was a number one priority, of course, which is why all of the grandchildren remember her laying them down in her lap and brushing their teeth with baking soda tooth powder. This happened even if they only had two teeth in their mouth. And they all have great teeth to this day!
For a time, Margie would have Eddie and Dan, and their wives, Holly and Leslie, over weekly for dinner. Those were treasured times, sharing and laughing about each week’s events. Margie loved the Lord. And she loved her family with a Christ-like love, always supporting them with encouragement and her presence.
