Joshua E. Searle, 33, passed away on October 17, 2017. He was born on May 18, 1984 in Austin, TX, but lived his whole life in San Marcos. Josh attended Hays High School and Texas State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Josh was an avid tennis player, becoming a professional player and instructor with the prestigious Peter Burwash International tennis organization. As a professional tennis instructor, Josh taught at many tennis clubs and schools, including South Austin Tennis Center, Lost Creek Country Club, Texas State University, Newk’s Tennis Ranch and the JW Marriot Desert Springs Resort in California. Josh also taught at exotic international clubs including Nevis’ Four Season’s Resort, Curacao’s Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort, and the Melbourne Tennis Center in Australia. Josh’s other love was music. He was a percussionist in the marching band both in middle school and at Hays High School, earning the position of center snare on the drumline. He was an accomplished electronic music composer and musician and had, at one time, contemplated becoming an audio engineer. Josh was a true Texan—he loved to barbecue some meat and afterward, sit on the tin roof staring at the big night sky over Texas. Josh was a kind-hearted soul-he once rescued a tiny pup that was in the road and we still have him to this day. Pup-pup now weighs close to 100 pounds and we have all known great joy because of this act of kindness. Josh leaves behind many friends and family including his father, Dan E. Searle; stepmother, Debra Searle; stepbrothers, David Hebert and Matthew Hebert; stepsister, Skye Barela; mother, Kathy Ferris; grandmother, Shizuko Searle; aunts, Shirley Searle, Martha Lynn Searle, Sharlene Peters, Darla Miller, and Karen Shepherd; and uncles, Robert Searle, Michael Searle, Bill Shepherd, and Jim Burkhardt; cousins, Christi Tredemeyer, Hayden Peters, Michelle Miller, Cynde Miller, Coridon Burkhardt, Hillary Burkhardt, and Chris Saville; and his long-term girlfriend, Samantha Cruz. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Rachael Shannon Searle; grandfathers, Robert D. Searle and Roy Ferris; grandmother, Evolee Ferris; uncles, Tommy Miller and Gary Peters. A memorial service for Josh will be held at 1:00 pm. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Thomason Funeral Home, 2001 Old Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, TX 78666.
