1924 - 2013
Archie Kenneth Weatherford (Ken), 89, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, November 18, 2013 after suffering from Alzheimer's. He was born on May 15, 1924 in Dilley, Texas to Dorothy and Archie Weatherford, and was one of seven children.
Ken lived a life of service including earning his Eagle Scout Award at 15. He served in the Navy in World War II and in the Korean War. He graduated from North Texas State University in 1949 with a degree in Industrial Technology. Ken moved back to San Marcos and married Tommie Jenness. They had three daughters. He went on to become a successful businessman including owning Weatherford Funeral Home. He was very involved in the San Marcos community. He was an active member of the Rotary Club and served as the Chamber of Commerce President.
Ken moved to Red River, New Mexico in 1971 where he was a real estate broker for many years. In Red River he met Fran Snider. They were married for 16 years until Fran's death in 2012.
Ken is survived by three daughters and their families; Susie Moore of Dallas and her daughter and son-in-law Della and Brandon Perry of Austin, Betsie Weatherford of Houston, Jane Ellen and Vince Shilling of Dallas and their children Erin and Jared, three great grandchildren, and Tommie Weatherford. He will be greatly missed by his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Dorothy Weatherford, brothers Sydney and David, sister Dottsie, and wife Fran Snider. He is survived by his sisters, Florence Berrong of San Antonio and Catherine Martin of Temple, and brother, Jack Weatherford of San Marcos.
Ken's family would like to express special gratitude to the administrators and caregivers at Silverado Turtle Creek Memory Care Community who provided outstanding care, compassion and friendship for Ken in the last 18 months of his life, and also many thanks to Dr. Mihaela Perijoc and her staff for taking wonderful medical care of Ken.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with the Chapel Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley, Texas. Internment to follow at Kyle Cemetery, Kyle, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society or the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.
