Mike O. Cervantes Jr. also known as “Popo” passed peacefully on Sunday, June 25, 2017 with his wife, children and grandchildren by his side at the age of 69. He was born August 20, 1947 in Seguin, Texas to Mike Sr. and Delfina Cervantes.
He married his best friend and the love of his life Maria “Lupe” in 1967. For 49 years, they raised 2 daughters and 1 grandson. They shared a life of faith, family and love. Popo was a true family man; he enjoyed being a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He loved visiting with family and friends sharing stories and telling jokes. He also loved BBQing, music, the dog whisper, game shows and the Dallas Cowboys.
He joined the Navy on January 18, 1965. He did a yearlong tour in Vietnam in 1967. After serving his country he worked at Sac N Pac for 2 years, then Wide-lite for 17 years. Finally retiring from Texas State as a Power Plant Operator after 23 years.
He was caring, devoted, loving, hardworking and most of all loyal and will be dearly missed. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Maria; children Karen (David), Yvette (Mike), and Michael (Jennifer); grandchildren Christina (AJ), Stephanie, Michela, Mikey, Kevin; and one great grandchild Joseph.
He is survived by his siblings Louis Cervantes (Gloria), Ashely Cervantes, Nancy Lejia, and Jesse Cervantes (Carmen). With numerus Nieces and Nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Mike Sr. and Delfina Cervantes, and brother Frankie Cervantes Sr.
His family will greet visitors at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos from 2:00 P.M. through 9:00 P.M. this Wednesday, June 28, 2017 with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Joseph Mission - Catholic Church (5078 Redwood Rd, San Marcos, TX 78666) at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 29, 2017. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale.
