Mickie Gorham Callender, a gracious, loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend was born in Shreveport Louisiana on July 30th, 1929 to Erma and Armitten Gorham. Her family and friends knew whose child she was, a child of the King. Mickie exemplified the presence of Christ. Her eighty three year life was a consistent testimony to her faith and God's faithfulness.
Mickie loved teaching. She taught second grade through high school in public and private schools for forty one years in Louisiana, Dickenson, Texas, and San Marcos, Texas at Gary Job Corps and San Marcos Baptist Academy. She also taught Sunday school and Missions at First Baptist Church in San Marcos. Along with her teaching, Mickie sewed beautiful clothes and cooked delicious meals for her family and friends. In June of 1949, Mickie married Bernard Callender and they had fifty four wonderful years together raising a family and traveling the world.
Mickie is survived by her daughter, Deborah and her husband Mark Connally of Houston, her son Mel Callender and his wife Kathy of San Marcos, and four granddaughters, Katherine Connally McDonald and her husband Ian, Kaylan Connally, Kyleigh Callender and Konnor Callender.
Please join us in celebrating Mickie's well lived and gracious life. A brief service will be conducted at The San Marcos Cemetery on June 7th at 2:30 pm followed by a Celebration Service and reception at 3:30 pm at the First Baptist Church, 325 W. McCarty Lane in San Marcos.
