Obituary

Nancy McGrory Attwell
On Monday, April 19, 2010, Nancy McGrory Attwell, cherished wife and mother, passed peaceably in her favorite place at Cypress Creek in Wimberley, Texas, at age 67.
Born in Carney's Point, New Jersey, she moved to Houston, Texas when she became a flight attendant for Delta. She married Kirby Attwell in 1965, and became active in many parts of Houston life. Devoting her energy not only to her two children and family, she also actively participated in many volunteer activities such as the Junior League, the Houston Zoo, Share Our Strength, and St. John's Church. She worked as a fundraiser through special events for KUHT Channel 8 and ran the auction for many years. She was known and loved for her generosity, creativity and love of life. She loved her family, her dogs, the Texas hill country, all holidays (especially Christmas) and Nestle crunch bars. She always put the needs of her family and friends ahead of her own. She spread kindness and joy to everyone she came into contact with and her lessons of caring will long endure. Her sense of humor, childlike exuberance and occasional mischievousness will be missed by family, friends, acquaintances and the many animals who visited for snacks.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Kirby Attwell, her son Kirby Andrew Attwell of Houston, her daughter Meredith and son-in-law Jamie Baker, of Washington, D.C. and their daughters: Rosemary, Hallie, Mary Stuart and Jackie, and most specially, her dog Mercy.
There will be a family celebration of her life creekside in Wimberley at 11 am on Wednesday, April 21st, and a memorial service will be held at St. John's the Divine in Houston at 10 am on Friday, April 23rd. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 4000-A FM3237, Wimberley, TX 78676.
