Maj. Reed Carr, USAF (Ret), 89 passed away on Aug. 6, 2013. Reed was born in Turnersville, Texas on Feb.21, 1924 to Leona and Samuel Carr. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1942 where he played in the band and played six-man football. He served in the Army and World War II from 1943 until 1946. Upon his return to civilian life he attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corp of Cadets and graduated with a degree in Agriculture Education in 1950. Following graduation, he was commissioned into the US Air Force as a second lieutenant. After serving for 26 years, rising to the rank of Major and serving in the Korean War, Reed retired in 1969 and moved to San Marcos. He enjoyed a second career as the Director of Residential Living at Texas State University, retiring in 1983. Reed was a life-long cattle rancher and horseman and agricultural advocate. For many years, he was an active member of the San Marcos Lions Club and the Hays County 4H and Youth Livestock Show. He was also a member of the Texas A&M Former Students Association and the American Angus Association.
Reed met Patricia Moore on a blind date in 1946 and they were married for 64 years. They successfully raised three daughters and enjoyed the military life and lived in numerous interesting places.
Reed is survived by his wife, Patricia, his daughter Sara Carr of Lockhart, his daughter Anne Carr Felan (Joe) of Little Rock, AR, and five grandchildren- Reed Ryan, Evan Ryan, Nathaniel Felan, Michal Felan and Isabelle Felan.
He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Worthington of Virginia and brother, Jack Carr of San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leona and Samuel Carr, his daughter, Dr. Ruth Carr, his brother, Capt. SM Carr and his sisters Gwendolyn Jarosz, Joy Murphy and Ruth Carr.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday August 12, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church in San Marcos. Interment will take place at the Ft. Sam Houston National Military Cemetery at 1:45 PM on Friday, August 16, 2013.
