Due to a violent car accident Nov. 6, 2017, Wanda Jean Bowers McCaskill passed away on Nov. 16 at 4 a.m. at the Seton Trauma Hospital in Austin, Texas.
Jean was born in Carthage, Texas, where she graduated from high school and then graduated from Panola Junior College. Jean went on to graduate from Stephen F. Austin University. She also received a Master's Degree in Science Education from Sa Houston University with a scholarship from the National Science Foundation. Jean later received her Administrative Certificate from Texas State University. Jean taught in the public schools for 33 years, teaching at schools in Lake Jackson, Texas. San Marcos and Beaumont, as well as Lamar University. Jean was awarded the Science Teacher of the Year at a convention in Boston, Mass. She was twice awarded Science Teacher of the Year by Texas A&M. Jean was the daughter of Irene Bowers. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Dr. Ed McCaskill, two sons, Michael Edwin of San Marcos and Walter Scott of Wimberley; and three grandsons, Max Charles of Wimberley, Zackary Scott of San Marcos and Rex Allen of Wimberley. This amazing lady will be missed by all who knew her.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. on Dec. 9 at First Presbyterian Church of San Marcos.
A scholarship fund in her name has been established at Edward Jones Company, 1920 Corporate Drive, Suite 202, San Marcos, Texas, 78666.
