MERALDA T. ORTIZ, 82, a lifelong resident of San Marcos, Texas, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Mother's Day, May 14, 2017. She was born June 8, 1934, in San Marcos, to Jose and Juana (Vargas) Teneyuque. Meralda will always be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit and for being a hard worker. She worked for the Brown Schools as a mental health worker for over 31 years. Meralda enjoyed music, antiques, flowers, and collecting dolls. The true love of her life, however, was spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be greatly missed including her favorite saying: "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy".
Meralda is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Celia T. Huerta, and her brother Andres "Andy" Teneyuque. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Fernando Ortiz, Sr.; her sons Armando Ortiz, Eduardo Ortiz and his wife Gwendolyn, Fernando Ortiz, Jr. and his wife Gloria; her daughters Elizabeth Mendez, Vivian Jaimes and her husband Ricardo, Jr., and Darlene Zuniga and her husband Ricardo. Meralda is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos. A Rosary will be recited that evening at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at St. John's Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale. Pallbearers will be David Jeff Mendez, Jonathan Mendez, Ricardo Jaimes III, Joshua Zuniga, Mark Anthony Ortiz, Jessica Natal, Leandra Zuniga, and Roberto Jaimes.
