Juana (Janie) V. Lucio was called Home to be with our Lord on August 6, 2017 at the age of 95, in San Marcos, Texas.

Janie was born on July 29, 1922, in San Marcos, Texas, to Gabriel and Cruz Vela. In her adulthood, Janie married the love of her life, Raymond, and they set out to grow their family by having two children, Maria and Daniel.

Homemaking was a great joy for Janie, however, aside from this was her desire to connect with women through the selling of Avon Cosmetics. As a result, for many years Janie was well known as the Avon lady in San Marcos. Janie was the recipient of numerous awards for top sales, was accepted into the Avon President’s Recognition Program, and was a member of the Avon Honor Society from 1992-2007.

In her personal time, Janie was an active member of the Archicofradia Society at St. John’s Catholic Church in San Marcos, and was also a lifetime member of the GI Forum Women’s Auxiliary.

Janie and Raymond spent many weekends spending time with friends and family, celebrating life by dancing the night away or playing bingo.
Janie will be most remembered for having a servant’s heart, for the love and special care that she showed her family and friends, and for her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her son, Daniel; grandson, Daniel, Jr.; parents, Gabriel and Cruz Vela; sisters Frances (Vela) Adams and Mary (Vela) Villarreal; and mother and father-in-law, Agustin, Sr. and Maria de Jesus Lucio.

She is survived by her daughter, Maria Lucio; granddaughter, Valerie Lucio DeLeon and husband Stephen; granddaughters, Sarah, Hannah, Norah Gage and Daniela Hale; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the following for the care that they provided to our beloved Janie: Dr. William Rogers and CTMC Hospice Care.

A graveside service will be held under the pavilion at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Martindale, Texas on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. For more information, call Thomason Funeral Home at (512) 396-2300 or visit to sign the guest book.
