John William “Jake” Crowell, age 84, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at his home in San Marcos, TX with his wife by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Millie Crowell of San Marcos, TX; son, John W. Crowell, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; stepson, Scott P. Henderson of San Marcos, TX; grandsons, John W. Crowell, III of Katy, TX, Jace Hidalgo of Phoenix, AZ, and Taylor Hidalgo of Lake Charles, LA; great grandchildren, Brittni and Brady Crowell of Katy, TX; and son-in-law, Emilio Hidalgo of Lake Charles, LA.

Jake is preceded in death by his daughter, Cami Sue Hidalgo; parents, Henry and Mary Crowell; brother, Larry, and sister, Linda.
Bro. Jake was a minister for 50+ years, serving in youth, music, and education work and as a pastor in several churches in Southwest Louisiana and in Texas. He loved to study the Word and after retiring from the active ministry he would teach a Bible Study or a Sunday School Class whenever the opportunity arose.

Jake was born in Joplin, MO and lived there until joining the U.S. Air Force in 1952. An avid sports fan, he played baseball in high school, American Legion, and other leagues during his teens. One of the best experiences of his life was playing shortstop on the 1952 Championship Oswego, KS team.

He enjoyed traveling, gardening, attending live shows, spending time with family and friends, and watching the antics of his two cats, Penny and Houdini.
