Obituary

Barbara Jean McMeans Hines, born January 11th, 1934 with her twin sister Bettye near Stockdale Texas, died peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on September 22nd, 2017. Her memorial service is to be held October 7th, 2017 at 2pm in Wimberley, TX at Thomason Funeral Home. Barbara was an active member in the Wimberley community; working many long hours in the EmilyAnn Theatre gardens. She retired from the Federal Government in 1985 with service in the Social Security Administration and the Veterans Administration. Barbara was one of six siblings, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who cherished her family above all else. She married her first husband Philip J Hines on May 14th 1954 in Pharr, Texas. Philip preceded Barbara in death. However, the two of them enjoyed a long happy marriage with two children together, five grandchildren and even more great-grandkids. Barbara was set to marry her second love, Mr. Tom Sorrell of Round Rock, Texas sometime this year. Barbara was preceded in death by not only her first husband, but her twin sister Bettye, her son Steve Hines, her parents Murl and Annie McMeans, and two more of her siblings Merlene Goodson and Sonny McMeans; plus several of her nephews. She is survived by two of her sisters, Vivian Posey and JoAnn Loyer, her daughter Vicki Farmer, her grandchildren Laura Williams, Chris Williams, Michele Hanlon, Debra Hines, and Michael Hines and many great-grandchildren. Barbara spent the last three years living in Austin with her granddaughter, Debra Hines, and her great-grandson, Ethan Hathaway, where she enjoyed eating Tex-Mex, shopping, hazelnut lattes and community bridge games. During her time in Wimberley, Barbara worked as a gifted healer; trained in massage therapy and Reiki energy techniques. She will be missed greatly by her Wimberley, Austin and San Marcos family and friends. Please join us in celebrating the life of Barbara Hines. A life well lived.
