Charles L Barney, age 92, passed away on 3rd of December 2017.
He was born in Shreveport Louisiana on November 4, 1925 to L. K. and Ruby Lee Weeks Barney. Charlie is survived by the love of his life Frances, his wife of 73 years; sons, Jerry Barney and wife Margaret; Randy Barney and wife Patricia; daughter Merilyn Barney and husband Rafael Castanet; Grandchildren: Justin Barney, Liz Davis, Tracy Chiari and husband Romano, Kerri Taylor and husband David, Becki Hayes and husband Mike; Great grandchildren: Jackson and Piper Barney, Austin and Madeline Falwell, Erin and Ryan Chiari, Travis, Rebecca and Sarah Taylor, Eden and Everleigh Hayes. Additional survivors are: Brother Melvin Barney; Brother Harvey Barney and wife Grace and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and Sister-in-law Carolyn Barney.
Charlie graduated from Fair Park High School in 1942 where he received a football scholarship to LSU. Being a great center at LSU he played in the 1944 Orange Bowl defeating Texas A&M 19-14. During WWII, while at LSU, Charlie enlisted in the Navy. During a leave in WWII, he returned to Shreveport to marry his high school sweetheart, Frances. When the war ended, Charlie returned to LSU where he graduated with a BS degree in petroleum engineering. He served as an executive in the oil & gas industry with a number of companies. He began his career with Magnolia Petroleum Company (now, Mobil). Charlie played an integral part as an advisor in the negotiations for the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty with Begin, Sadat and President Carter concerning oil and gas leases in the Sinai. After his retirement he then started his own business investing in oil and gas as well as real estate. Charlie will be missed by all.
