John Lloyd Nelson, age 82 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 1st, 2018. Lloyd was born on May 4, 1935, to Jessie and Paul Nelson, Sr., of Austin, Texas. He proudly served 12 years in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga. He was with Fighter Squadron 31.
After his service in the U.S. Navy, Lloyd managed both the Chief and Burnet Drive-In theaters in Austin. After moving to Wimberley, Texas, in 1976, he went into the insulation business, then retired in 1996. Lloyd and Linda were married in 1984 in Wimberley, where they resided to the present.
Lloyd was an avid deer hunter, fisherman, and master gardener. He enjoyed playing cards and beating his opponents at Spades.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Paul Sr., his brothers Robert and Paul Jr., and his baby sister Sharon.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Linda of Wimberley, his three sisters Betty, Willeta Ann and Marilyn, along with numerous nieces and nephews who reside in Texas. He has one nephew who lives in New Mexico. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 5, at 5-8 PM, at the Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley. Services will be held at the same location at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 6, to be followed by burial at the Wimberley Cemetery.
