James H. Johnson, Major US Army, Ret., passed away on 10 March 2018 at the age of 92. Jim was born in Chicago, IL., In 1925 to Floyd Johnson and Ida Shearin. The family moved to Indiana where he graduated from Frankfort High School in 1943. In the same year he enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served as an Artillery Battery Commander on the island battlefields of the Pacific. At the end of the war he continued his military career in the Army Reserve, rising to the rank of Major. He graduated from Purdue University where he met and married his wife of 54 years, Alice Millard. Jim and Alice made their home in Goshen, Indiana where for 37 years he was a public accountant and for 30 years owner of ELCO Lawn and Recreational Products. He was an avid snowmobiler. He developed a passion for aviation early in life getting a pilot’s license, becoming a radio control flier and with the move to San Marcos, Texas, in 1989, working as a volunteer at the Pioneer Flight Museum restoring vintage aircraft. Six years after Alice’s death, he met and married Evelyn Mc Kenney. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Alice Johnson, wife Evelyn Johnson and sister Lorraine Actor. He is survived by his daughter Carol Ann Johnson (CJ), brother Pat Johnson, sisters Shirley Nicholson and Fran Johnston. A graveside service will be held at 10:45 am on April 3rd at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
