Jacob "Jake" Alexander Graves of San Marcos, Texas found his final peace and healing on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at age 32. He was born May 10, 1985 in Midland, Texas.
Jake is preceded in death by his grandparents Harold and Jackie Oliver and Ralph Graves. He is survived by his wife, Jessica Graves; parents Mark and Kim Graves; sister Krystal Wilson and husband Kasey and nephews and nieces Cole, Hadlie and Rhett; grandmother Jerri Graves; uncles Brad Graves and wife Pamela, John Oliver and wife Debbie, Wayne Oliver and wife Linda; cousins Daniel Graves, Jamison Graves, Leah Jenkel-Oliver and Beau Jenkel-Oliver; and he will be greatly missed by a host of family, friends as well as his military family.
Jake graduated from the San Marcos Baptist Academy in 2003 and enlisted in the Army at age 17, ready to serve and protect his country and our freedom. During this time he was assigned to 1st Cavalry and served in Iraq as an Infantryman and 13 Bravo. Graves’ awards and decorations include Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
Jake met Jessica after his return to the States and they married Nov. 1, 2014. He was an amazing partner, son, brother, uncle, grandson, friend and though he was taken too soon, we know that he is at peace and smiling down on all of us.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at the Robinson Christian Center at San Marcos Baptist Academy, 2801 Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, Texas. Minister Mike Thielen will officiate. The graveside service will take place at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests friends and loved ones consider a contribution in Jake’s memory to his Intensive Outpatient Program, Kidd Counseling. This program brought such strength, support, joy and hope into Jake’s life over this last year and he would be proud to help provide healing to another in-need.
