Obituary for Billie Sue Doring

My Beloved Mother, Billie Sue Doring, who was known to many of her friends as just “Billie” went to be with her Lord last Sunday Morning, September the 30th, 2018. She was born in the little North Texas Town of Carey Texas, on November 6th of 1930. Mom was preceded in death first by her Father Cecile Curtis Bradshaw, and then her Mother Mattie Pruitt Bradshaw. Then by her two sisters Darlene Donahue, Thyra Chewning, and by her younger brother, Joe Bradshaw. Her only daughter, my older sister Susan Fletcher, passed away in 2006 at age 49, after a long struggle with ovarian cancer in. Then last year in February of 2017 my father and her Husband of 69 years George Lewis Doring passed away.

Billie Sue is survived by me, Ronald Doring her only son, and Kathy Doring, my wife, and her daughter in law, whom she loved dearly and grew so very close to. She is also survived by five grandsons, my sons, Brad Doring, Nathan Doring, and Jeff Doring, Blake Fletcher and Brett Fletcher, the latter two who reside in Australia. Mom left her four granddaughter in law's Sharon Doring, and Aimee Doring, Stefanie Fletcher and Faye Fletcher, the latter two of who also reside in Australia.

Mom also left seven great grandchildren, two of whom also reside in Australia.
My Mother touched many lives. She became a Christian when she was 13 years old. Then she rededicated her life to Christ under the ministry of Pastor Roland Rogers, at a little church called the “Free Methodist Church” in Corpus Christi Texas. This happened when she was only 21 years old in 1951. That was the very same service when my Dad went forward during the invitation time to receive Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Since that day Mom has always been very active in “her church”, in every place she lived, ministering to her friends and others, and teaching Sunday school classes, and Vacation Bible School, etc, until my Father's health problems, and then later on her own her own failing health, prevented her from attending and serving regularly, in her beloved church, Westover Baptist Church, here in San Marcos Texas.

But even to the very end, Mom kept in touch with her vast network of friends. She always wrote letters and cards to her many friends and many loved ones. She also wrote and sent cards to others, some of whom she only knew through correspondence. Mom knew every birthday of just about everyone she ever knew, including cousins, 2nd cousins, friends and even many “friends of friends”. Therefore, she was affectionately known by those of her immediate family as, “The Birthday Queen”.

To Mom, keeping track of the scores to maybe even over a hundred of birthday's she knew by memory, was both a “hobby” a ministry. And it went beyond birthday's to an amazing, volume of our family's history and the many wedding anniversaries and special events like graduations, etc., of both family and friends, all of which she knew and could recall in an instant, just by memory.

To say the least, Mom will be missed by many. She died very peacefully, and she was way past ready to “Go Home” to be with her Husband, and my Dad, and also to see her many loved ones again.

Her funeral service will be held at Westover Baptist Church in San Marcos on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
