Obituary for John James Housos

On June 6, 2019, John James Housos, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, left this world to celebrate with his Lord.
John was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 5, 1932. John had work in his blood, growing up on a farm, there were always chores to be done, tending crops and animals, among other jobs. He also worked in the family restaurant. In 1950, during the Korean War, John joined the Navy and served as a gunner on the destroyer USS Taussig in the Pacific until 1953. Those years in the Navy were heavily imprinted on his identity, and he was proud of his time of service, always ready to relate a tale or two…or more…about his Navy days. On December 8, 1960, he and Vaughn “Tinky” Evans were married, and together they raised a family of 4 daughters. John worked as an auto body repairman, and eventually opened his own repair shop in Cleveland, TX, where he worked for several years until “retiring”, although “retirement” for him didn’t mean he stopped working. John was a Master Mason and member of the Sam B. Crawford Masonic Lodge in New Caney, Texas. In addition, John attended seminary to become an ordained minister. As such, he and Tinky worked to revitalize several struggling churches across south Texas, eventually starting “Roadside Ministries” sharing the gospel from the RV that he and Tinky enjoyed traveling around the country in. John loved to meet people, and would often strike up conversations with strangers, especially children. He often had a mischievous sparkle in his eye, and you could tell when he was having fun.
John was blessed with a large loving family, including his wife, Tinky, and children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren too numerous to mention! His unwavering devotion to his Lord, his family, and his work, made him a model to be admired, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
