(Mary) Elizabeth Reynolds died peacefully with her family around her on October 9, 2017 at the age of 96. She was born on September 29, 1921 in Zanesville, Ohio. She moved to Texas in 2006 to be with her daughter when her husband Pete (Lumon) Reynolds died.
Her parents were Heber Griffith Slack and (Susan) Isabel Merry Slack. She was the oldest girl in a family of six—Bill Slack, Miriam Schmidt, Sarah Slack, Margaret Lanning Pool, and Jane Houk.
In June, 1946, Elizabeth married Glenn Walter Porter. They had three children: Susan, Frank, and Steve.
She is survived by her sisters Margaret and Jane; her daughter Susan Smith and son-in-law Bill Ricker; their children, Morgan Smith, Laura Smith Hill, and Paul Ricker; and her beloved great grandchildren Kate and Claire Smith and Lila and Lucas Hill.
Elizabeth was a model for how to stay active in old age. She slowed down a bit, but she always found the energy to get to church and any and all social events where she might see an old friend or make a new one. She had a warm smile for everyone she met. She loved to travel and had cherished memories of trips across the country and around the world.
Elizabeth will be remembered for her love of family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren; her amazing gift for making friends wherever she went; her delight in singing and ballroom dancing; her pride in her long career as a kindergarten teacher; and her complete faith in the love of Jesus.
