Robert McNeill "Bob" Caldwell of Wimberley died Friday, September 29, 2017, at the age of 88. He was born to McNeill Arthur and Lucille Caldwell on April 21, 1929, in San Antonio.
At age 17 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served until 1949. He reached the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan.
Bob's career included being a civilian Equipment Specialist for Aircraft for the United States Army and a consultant for Sabreliner Corporation. He was a true handyman that could fix anything and knew everything. This useful skill allowed him to be a key volunteer building sets for the plays at the Wimberley Playhouse.
He and his wife Dot moved to Wimberley permanently in 1991 after maintaining a vacation home here for many years. He married Dorothy Lee "Dot" Holtermann in 1954 and they had three daughters, all of which survive him. They are: Debra Bernstein and husband Eric of Austin, Cindy Caldwell of Wimberley, and Brenda Wood and husband Bill of Austin; his sister Peggy Caldwell Fairey and husband Gordon of Corpus Christi; his brother Michael Caldwell and his wife Charlotte of Wimberley; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Neill Hurley and his wife Shelby and their children Emerson Lee and Jacob McNeill, Blake Bernstein and Kelsey Bernstein, Cody Walker and his wife Breann and their child Lane Stewart, Clint Walker and fiancÚ Kathryn Yarbrough, and Katy Wood and Ryan Wood. And very special family friends Rick and Beth Mendoza and Lorene Brown.
He is proceeded in death by his wife Dot; his mother Lucille; his father McNeill; and his best friends Laurel and Sonny Gold.
The family will receive friends at Thomason Funeral Home from 5-8 PM Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at the Thomason Funeral Home in Wimberley, located at 14700 Ranch Road 12 North, on Wednesday, October 4th, 2017 at 10:00 AM.
