It is with deep sorrow that the family of Larry E. Johnston announces his passing on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the age of 71. An East Texas native with a passion for public education, spending time with family, gardening, nature, and living life fully and with the most positive attitude, Larry was a retired Superintendent who was working at the Texas Education Agency in school accountability. His good nature, large sense of humor, and kind and gentle demeanor made him a friend to everyone he met.
Larry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 50 years, Sharon his children, Steve and Anna (Chris), and by his three grandsons, Miller, Grayson, and Matthew. He will also be warmly remembered by extended family, numerous friends, and colleagues.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Thomason Funeral Home, 2001 Ranch Road 12 San Marcos, Texas.
Long known for his love of nature, the outdoors, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Larry’s name to:
Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation - Kendalia
P.O. Box 369 Kendalia, Texas 78027
Larry’s support and interest in this organization began when he rescued a small wounded Screech Owl taking it to the Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation in Kendalia where they were able to rehabilitate the owl and release him back to the wild. May your memories of Larry warm your heart as much as saving this owl did his.
